Culture Minister Fadli Zon to Build Indonesia's First Film Museum in Kota Tua

Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon has revealed plans to revitalise old buildings in the Kota Tua area of Jakarta. One of the buildings will be turned into a Film Museum.

Fadli Zon initially explained that his ministry is carrying out revitalisation work on a number of cultural heritage sites, including the Kota Tua Station. However, beyond that, there are also buildings in the Kota Tua area on the list to be renovated and converted into historical tourism attractions.

“The Kota Station in Kota Tua is an old station, after all. And Kota Tua itself has a great many buildings. So, I have already reported to the President, as well as to the Cabinet Secretary, that we will also revitalise the old buildings in the surrounding area,” said Fadli Zon during a journey aboard the Nusantara Explorer train from Batang to Jakarta on Thursday (30/7/2026).

Fadli Zon said his ministry would revitalise the former Jasa Raharja building into a Film Museum. He noted that it would be the first film museum in Indonesia.

“For example, there is the Jasa Raharja building there which we intend to turn into a Film Museum. So all this time we have not had a film museum,” he said.

In addition, Fadli Zon also stated that the former Jiwasraya building would be revitalised into a Music Museum. In the Kota Lama area of Semarang, he continued, a Photography Museum will be built.

“Then there is also the Jiwasraya building in Bandung which we will turn into a Music Museum, located on Jalan Asia Afrika. In Kota Lama Semarang we will build a Photography Museum, and in Surabaya we will build an Architecture Museum. We will carry out the first phase of all of these early this year,” he explained.
