Culture Minister Fadli Zon Receives Honorary Muna Adat Title

Muna (ANTARA) - Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon has been granted the honorary Muna traditional title of Sangia Tilano Lia Metanduno by the Muna Adat Institution and traditional leaders in Southeast Sulawesi. Chair of the Muna Adat Institution, La Ode Muhammad Ruslan, stated on Sunday that the title was awarded as a mark of respect for the designation of the ancient rock art at Liang Metanduno, Liangkabori Cave, Muna, as the oldest in the world during Minister Zon’s leadership. “On behalf of the Muna Adat Institution, traditional leaders, and religious figures, with the support of Muna Regent Bahrun, today, 11 July 2026, we confer the honorary adat title of Sangia Tilano Lia Metanduno upon Prof. Fadli Zon, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia,” Muhammad Ruslan said during the ceremony on Saturday (11/7). He expressed hope that the bestowal of this title would strengthen the bond between Minister Fadli Zon and the Muna community throughout Indonesia. “May this honorary title always receive the blessings of Allah SWT, and most importantly, may it strengthen the ties of friendship between the Minister and the Muna people wherever they are,” he added. Ruslan also extended his appreciation to Southeast Sulawesi Governor Andi Sumangerukka and Muna Regent Bachrun, noting that the global recognition of the world’s oldest cave paintings, dated at 67,800 years, was achieved during their respective leaderships alongside Minister Zon. The honorary title was conferred during Minister Zon’s working visit to open the Liangkabori Muna Festival in Southeast Sulawesi. The Muna adat title Sangia Tilano Lia Metanduno is a sacred noble distinction bestowed by the traditional council of the Muna Kingdom. Literally translated from the Muna language, the title means a wise and protective leader who radiates light and serves as a role model for the wider community. ‘Sangia’ refers to a respected, authoritative, and wise figure. ‘Tilano Lia’ means one who shines from within the cave or light emanating from the depths, and ‘Metanduno’ refers to the historic Liang Metanduno site in Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, symbolising strength, protection, and the history of civilisation.
