Indonesia’s Culture Minister Fadli Zon received an audience with Titik Prasetyowati Verdi at the Culture Ministry headquarters in Jakarta. Titik is a legendary World Champion Karate athlete.

The meeting discussed plans for the production of a biographical film that tells the true story of Titik’s journey as a karate athlete who achieved the World Champion title and brought honour to Indonesia on the international stage.

During the meeting, Titik Prasetyowati Verdi explained that the film is an adaptation of her life journey in winning two World Karate Champion titles, respectively in Mexico (1991) and Tokyo (1993).

Titik outlined that the research and scriptwriting process has been completed, and location scouting and casting have been prepared. Film production is scheduled to begin in June.

“This film is the true story of my life journey in winning two world karate championships and raising Indonesia’s flag on the international stage. We hope this film can inspire young generations and bring a positive message to society,” Titik said in a written statement on Saturday (28 February 2026).

Titik added that the film will not only showcase her achievements but also carry a social mission to increase awareness of the rising problem of sexual violence and criminal acts, particularly those threatening women and children.

“We hope this film can become part of women’s empowerment efforts. We present karate not merely as a sport, but as a means of building courage, discipline, and the ability to protect oneself,” Titik said.

Fadli Zon expressed appreciation for the biopic film production initiative, which he deemed to have inspirational, educational value and relevance to women’s empowerment issues.

Fadli emphasised that the Culture Ministry supports Indonesian film works that tell stories of struggle and carry positive messages for society.

“The Culture Ministry strongly supports national film works that have inspirational value and strengthen the nation’s character,” Fadli stated.

The Culture Ministry is working to strengthen the national film ecosystem through facilitating promotion, networking, and access to festival participation to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian films at the global level.

Syaiful Agam, the Director of Film, Music and Arts, stated that biographical films play an important role in inspiring young generations through the experiences and life journeys of the figures featured.

According to Syaiful, the stories of struggle and achievement presented in films bring positive messages to Indonesian audiences and can strengthen exemplary values within society.

This audience served as a momentum to strengthen synergies between the government and national film industry actors in encouraging the creation of quality works rooted in values of struggle, exemplary conduct, and national character.

The Culture Ministry will continue to support the development of Indonesian cinema so that it becomes increasingly competitive at both national and international levels.
