Cuban President says US military threats against Cuba are increasing dramatically
Moscow (ANTARA) - President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez stated that the military threats from the United States against Cuba have reached an unprecedented level. “US President (Donald Trump) has escalated his military aggression threats against Cuba to a dangerous and unprecedented level. The international community must take note and, together with the American people, determine whether such criminal actions are to be allowed to continue in order to satisfy the interests of a small group of wealthy and influential individuals, driven by a desire for revenge and domination,” Díaz-Canel said on platform X. He added that any aggressors in Cuba would face a people with full determination to defend their sovereignty and independence. In response to these new restrictions, Díaz-Canel described them as a reflection of the moral poverty of the US Government. He also stated that the tightening of the embargo has caused significant damage due to intimidation and the arrogance of the world’s largest military power. On 29 January, President Trump signed an executive order to impose import tariffs on countries supplying oil to Cuba and declared a state of emergency on the grounds of the threat posed by Cuba to US national security. The Cuban Government claims that the US is exploiting the energy embargo to strangle the national economy and create increasingly intolerable living conditions for the local population.
