Cuban Delegation Walks Out During Trump's UN Speech After Being Called a Failed State
The Cuban delegation walked out of the UN General Assembly chamber during US President Donald Trump’s speech. They left the assembly hall after Trump referred to Cuba as a failed state.
According to the BBC on Tuesday (23/09/2026), Trump initially highlighted one of the US’s closest neighbours, Cuba, describing it as a ‘truly failed state’. Trump further asserted that the Cuban regime would fall.
“That regime will collapse,” he stated.
He expressed that his administration is negotiating with Cuba and seeking “fundamental change.”
The Cuban delegation subsequently exited the room as Trump continued his address.
Over the past year, Trump has become increasingly vocal in his criticism of the Cuban communist government. Trump has claimed that the Cuban government is under “unprecedented pressure” and is “experiencing unprecedented failure.”
However, the US has yet to provide a detailed outline of the specific changes they expect to occur in Cuba.
Meanwhile, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reacted angrily to Trump’s comments, accusing the US President of spreading “lies.”
“The US government is unable to accept the reality that Cuba has the right to be a fully sovereign and independent nation,” Bruno Rodriguez wrote on the X platform.
