Cuba warns US military attack would trigger 'bloodshed'
Havana — Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has warned that any US military attack on Cuba would cause “bloodshed with untold consequences” and have a devastating impact on peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean.
“The threat of military aggression against Cuba by the world’s most powerful nation is widely known. Such a threat already constitutes an international crime,” Diaz-Canel wrote on the social media platform X.
He stated that Cuba “poses no threat, and has no aggressive plans or intentions towards any country,” adding that this is well known to the US government, particularly its national defence and security agencies.
Diaz-Canel noted that Cuba has already experienced “multidimensional aggression” from the US and possesses an “absolute and legitimate right” to defend itself against all forms of military action.
His statements follow a report by the US media outlet Axios on Sunday (17/5) claiming that Cuba has acquired more than 300 military drones and has assessed various possible scenarios for their use against US targets. The report emerges amidst rising tensions between Cuba and the US, characterised by new economic sanctions and various security-related allegations.
