Cuba Hit by Another National Blackout

Cuba was hit by a nationwide power outage on Sunday, according to Union Electrica (UNE). In a statement on social media, the state-owned electricity company said the national power system suffered a total blackout at 10:43 p.m. local time, or 09:43 a.m. Western Indonesia Time on Monday. The collapse of part of Cuba’s National Electric System caused blackouts in the western provinces on Saturday. The statement said the country is struggling to import fuel and repair its ageing power plants due to US sanctions. Since October 2024, Cuba has experienced a series of national blackouts caused by power facility disruptions, storms, and other factors.
