CSIS: Prabowo Government Cabinet Reshuffle Will Frequently Occur to Secure Political Support
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of the Politics and Social Department at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Arya Fernandes, assesses that President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto will still reshuffle the Merah Putih Cabinet in the following year to secure political support.
Arya conveyed this after observing five reshuffles conducted by President Prabowo to date.
“And now the Prabowo government has just entered its second year, with the third, fourth, and fifth years still ahead. So moving forward, we will see that reshuffles will occur frequently and generally to provide political support for the president,” Arya said at an event titled “Cabinet Reshuffle, Development Security, and the Papua Conflict”, held at the CSIS office on Monday (4/5/2026).
“The motive is always political calculation, and reshuffles for government performance are rarely encountered. So if there is a reshuffle, it is almost certainly for political calculation,” he stated.
He mentioned that the level of satisfaction with the government will determine political parties’ positions towards President Prabowo ahead of the elections.
“So we hope for a more ideal cabinet format, and the president indeed has full authority over those dismissed and appointed,” he said.
