CSIS organizing writing contest for silver jubilee
JAKARTA (JP): The Centre for Strategic and International
Studies (CSIS) is holding two writing competitions, one on
strategy and international relations, the other on Indonesian
philosophy and wisdom, with a grand prize of Rp 10 million.
CSIS' executive director, Hadi Susastro, announced on Thursday
evening that the competition on strategy and international
relations is open to university students and other young
connoisseurs.
He said that it is aimed at encouraging the development of
young minds in this field.
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges headed by the
deputy governor of the National Resilience Institute, Juwono
Sudarsono.
First place winner will receive a cash prize of Rp 10 million
and the Ali Moertopo Award. Second place will receive Rp 5
million.
The competition on Indonesian philosophy and wisdom is an
attempt to preserve the wealth of indigenous knowledge and
thinking.
"We feel there is a sparseness in this field," Hadi said
adding that unlike the previous category, this competition is
open to all.
The panel of judges, headed by Mochtar Buchori, will select
the winner of the Soedjono Hoemardani and Rp 10 million.
Contestants must submit their work by July 31 to the CSIS
office in Tanah Abang. The winners will be announced on Sept. 18.
The competitions are being held in conjunction with CSIS'
silver jubilee which falls on Sept. 1.
The board of directors on Thursday unveiled a calender of
events to mark the founding of one of Indonesia's premier think
tanks, which includes various seminars and public lectures
covering both domestic and international political-economic
issues.
The highlight of CSIS' activities will fall on Sept. 3 with a
seminar on the implementation of a fair and clean election. This
will be followed on Sept. 18 by a two-day seminar on One
Southeast Asia in a New Regional and International Setting.
A special lecture will also be given at a dinner that same day
by noted American political scientist Professor Robert A.
Scalapino. (mds)
