CSIS holds writing contest

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian intellectuals have been invited to take part in a scholarly writing contest on either international relations or the exploration of local thinking and philosophy.

"The contest is being held to create a climate conducive to scholarly writing," Hadi Soesastro, the Centre for Strategic and International Studies executive director told The Jakarta Post.

The strategic international relations category is intended to attract and stimulate talented university students, he said.

The second category on Indonesian philosophy is intended for intellectuals at large.

The contest is held in commemoration of the Centre's 25th anniversary this year.

Juwono Sudarsono, a noted political analyst will head the team of judges in the international relations category. The winner and runner-up will receive Rp 10 million and Rp 5 million in prize money respectively, in addition to an award named after one of the founders of the Centre, the late Ali Moertopo.

Mochtar Buchori, a noted intellectual, will head the jury for the second category. The prizes are the same, although in this category the award is named after the other founder of the Centre, the late Soedjono Humardani.

Entries must be entered by July 31, mailed to CSIS at Jalan Tanah Abang III No 23-27.

The winners will be announced at the Centre's anniversary party on Sept. 18. (14)
