The value of crypto assets lost to hacking throughout the first semester of 2026 has reached an alarming figure, approaching US$1 billion. According to data from DeFiLlama, at least 127 security incidents resulted in losses of approximately US$947 million during the period from January to June 2026.

This situation indicates that attack patterns within the blockchain ecosystem are becoming increasingly complex. Cybercriminals are no longer merely exploiting code vulnerabilities but are also targeting blockchain infrastructure and leveraging human error through social engineering operations.

To face these evolving threats, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is beginning to be relied upon as a new solution. Unlike traditional audits that occur periodically, AI enables smart contract analysis and continuous risk monitoring. This allows for the real-scale identification of vulnerabilities before they escalate into major incidents.

The CEO of INDODAX, William Sutanto, believes that the development of AI provides opportunities for the crypto industry to proactively strengthen security systems. “What is changing right now is not just the number of attacks, but also their level of complexity. Cybercriminals are becoming more organised. Therefore, security systems must be able to adapt more quickly, and AI has great potential to support those efforts,” said William.

While AI offers technical advantages, William emphasised that this technology is not a standalone solution. AI acts as a resource multiplier that accelerates detection, but the foundation of security remains a multi-layered protection ecosystem. “No matter how advanced the technology, it still requires competence, integrity, and human judgement behind it,” William added. According to him, the future standard of blockchain security will be determined by how quickly a system can detect, analyse, and respond to threats adaptively.

As a licensed crypto exchange in Indonesia, INDODAX is committed to strengthening national security standards. One concrete step taken is establishing a partnership with Chainalysis to enhance on-chain activity monitoring, risk management, and compliance systems to protect all users.
