Crypto Education Session at Jogja Financial Festival 2026 Proves Very Engaging
The Educational Talks session at Jogja Financial Festival (JFF) 2026 at Jogja Expo Center (JEC) in Bantul was lively. The financial literacy event opened with an interactive crypto quiz and gadget prizes for participants. “My first question is, does crypto really make you rich quickly? One, two, three. True or false?” the host asked as the discussion began on Friday, 22 May 2026. The participants unanimously replied, “No.” The mood lightened further as the moderator posed another question about crypto asset investment. “If you want to buy a coin, buy the ones that are trending now, true or false?” he asked again. The participants answered, “False.” The event then continued with a Kahoot quiz with gadget prizes from mobile phones to smartwatches and earphones. Dozens of participants pulled out their phones to join. “There are gadgets, AirPods, smartwatches, shopping vouchers, lots of other things,” the host said. In that session, participants from LPS and the Indonesian Blockchain Association even made the quiz winner line. However, the prizes were ultimately awarded to another participant after a consensus. “Let’s have a round of applause. Be gracious for the runner-up,” the host said to loud cheers. After the quiz, a discussion on crypto developments in Indonesia under the theme ‘New Wealth Era: Market, Algorithm, and Money’ was opened by Djoko Kurnijanto, Head of the Department of Regulation and Licensing for Innovation in the Financial Sector, Digital Financial Assets and Crypto Assets at OJK. In addition, Kirana Soehaimi — Executive Director of the Indonesian Blockchain Association, and Ronald Yusuf Wijaya — Chair of the Indonesian Sharia Fintech Association (AFSI) were also present. Djoko said that the growth in crypto transactions and the number of crypto accounts in Indonesia has continued to rise in recent years. “If we look at the period from when it was handled by Bappebti in 2022 up to the first months of 2026, the number of accounts has increased significantly,” he said. He noted that crypto asset transactions up to the fourth month of this year had approached Rp 100 trillion in cumulative terms. However, he said the value of transactions had fallen due to global geopolitical conditions. “But this decline is not due to a drop in frequency, but because prices have fallen following geopolitical conflicts,” he said. Djoko also touched on the phenomenon of many young people being drawn to crypto investing after seeing the success stories of veteran investors. He cited Bitcoin Pizza Day, celebrated every 22 May. “On 22 May 2010, that was the first time Bitcoin was used to buy something, namely pizza,” he explained. However, Djoko cautioned that not all crypto investors end up successful. He said many investors lose money because they do not understand the fundamentals of the digital assets they buy. “There are many Gen Z and Millennials too, not everyone gets a success story but ends up disappointed,” he said. Therefore, the OJK reminded the public not to use “hot money” to buy crypto assets and to always conduct research before investing. “Make sure you buy from digital asset merchants registered in Indonesia, with OJK,” he concluded.
