Crypto Boss Proposes Theory Behind Simultaneous Global AI Outage

Several AI applications suddenly went offline and became inaccessible on Thursday night (3/9/2026). The incident affected major platforms including ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok.

The issue occurred across multiple countries, including Indonesia, the United States, and India. These platforms remained inaccessible for approximately 90 minutes.

Several companies have spoken out regarding the incident. OpenAI stated that they are currently investigating the matter.

Claude also mentioned that it had identified the cause of increased error rates for requests to Claude Mythos 5.1, Claude Fable 5.1, and Claude Opus 5. The company is currently working on a fix.

X, the owner of Grok, also confirmed that its chatbot model had experienced issues. The company promised to restore services as quickly as possible, as quoted by the Hindustan Times on Friday (4/9/2026).

Meanwhile, the founder of the Cardano platform, Charles Hoskinson, has shared his theory regarding why many AI chatbots collapsed last night. He suggested the possibility of a state-sponsored attack behind the issue, alongside a heavy reliance on Nvidia chips.

He asserted that the cause of this incident is a government, rather than hackers or technical glitches.

“It looks like a nation has taken down Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok,” said Hoskinson, as quoted by Beincrypto.

Hoskinson explained that Google’s AI models use their own Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), unlike their competitors who rely on Nvidia chips.

“They all use Nvidia chips; Google does not,” he remarked in response to another social media user.

However, Gemini also experienced downtime alongside the other AI applications. Reports from around the world indicate that many users struggled to use Google’s chatbot as well.
