The development of quantum computing is considered a strategic issue that the blockchain ecosystem, including crypto, needs to begin understanding. This is because the technology could pose dangers, particularly regarding cryptographic security and infrastructure development, though it can also be utilised.

Indodax Chief Marketing Officer Aloysia Dian stated that discussions on quantum computing should be viewed as part of efforts to build a blockchain ecosystem that is increasingly mature and ready to face future technological developments.

“Technological developments always present challenges as well as opportunities. Although quantum computing is still in the research and development stage, its potential impact on cryptographic systems has drawn the attention of the global community. Therefore, it is important for industry players to begin understanding this direction of development so that the ecosystem can adapt gradually through discussion and education,” Aloysia said in a statement on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.

In Indonesia, efforts to strengthen understanding of quantum computing developments have already begun. This was one of the focuses of the ETH Genesis: Quantum Leap forum, which brought together communities, developers, industry players, and academics to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the future of the blockchain ecosystem.

According to her, over the past decade, Ethereum has become the foundation for various innovations in the Web3 ecosystem, ranging from decentralised finance (DeFi), NFTs, and various smart contract-based applications, to asset tokenisation. As technology evolves, the blockchain ecosystem and industry players are also required to continuously improve security standards and build infrastructure that is increasingly adaptive to future challenges and opportunities.

She noted that discussions about quantum computing do not mean the technology currently poses a direct threat to blockchain. The potential risks widely discussed by researchers and developers relate more to the future ability of quantum computers to break the cryptographic systems used to secure digital assets, once the technology reaches a certain level of maturity.

“Currently, quantum computing is still in the research and development phase. In the future, this technology has the potential to be utilised to accelerate various complex computing processes and drive innovation across multiple sectors, including crypto. At the same time, the global blockchain community is also continuing to conduct research and develop new approaches to ensure the ecosystem remains secure alongside these technological developments,” Aloysia explained.
