Cruise Ship Fire in Singapore Kills One Indonesian Crew Member
A fire broke out on a cruise ship bound for Singapore, killing one crew member who was an Indonesian national. The blaze forced the evacuation of hundreds of passengers.
Singapore’s maritime authority said in a statement that the fire on the World Legacy had been extinguished. There were no other reports of injuries among the crew or the 271 passengers on board.
However, four passengers were taken to hospital for “further medical examination.”
“The deceased crew member, an Indonesian national, has been transferred ashore,” the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said, as reported by AFP news agency on Friday (20 February 2026).
“All 271 passengers from the World Legacy have been safely evacuated,” it added.
A preliminary investigation indicated the fire occurred in a lounge area on the ship’s ninth deck on Friday morning local time.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing,” the port authority said.
Singapore-based World Cruises, which operates the World Legacy, could not be reached for comment.
Anchored off the coasts of Singapore and Malaysia, the Liberia-registered vessel describes itself as a “floating lifestyle destination.” Passengers take short ferry trips from both countries to board the ship and enjoy its facilities.
Passengers can stay for several hours or book packages of up to three days.
The ship typically anchors in Singapore every Friday before returning to its mooring location.
“The vessel is in stable condition and is currently anchored at Raffles Reserved Anchorage (in Singapore),” the port authority said.
