High volatility is likely to continue until the end of May.

The community-owned oil wells, or those owned by Regional State-Owned Enterprises (BUMDs), cooperatives, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) located in Klantung hamlet, Sojomerto village, Gemuh sub-district, Kendal Regency, Central Java, have begun shipping crude oil to Pertamina Cepu. The first shipment took place on Sunday (17/5).

The initial shipment consisted of 15,000 litres of crude oil, equivalent to three tankers. These oil wells are managed by Karya Energi Nusantara Oil (KEN Oil).

The field supervisor, Ismayulianto, stated that this first shipment is an initial step in managing the community-owned oil wells in the Kendal area, which have been gradually developed.

Ismayulianto added that there are still several untapped oil wells. In the future, the management aims to produce up to 25,000 litres of crude oil per day for shipment to Pertamina Cepu.

“This is just the first shipment. There are still some wells that have not been fully utilized. We hope to eventually reach a target of 25,000 litres per day,” said Ismayulianto.

Ismayuliyanti mentioned that in addition to involving local residents as labour, the management of the oil wells also cooperates with Perhutani (the state forestry company). “Because Perhutani is the landowner,” explained Ismayulianto.

The Operational Manager of the Kopmigas Deputy, Wahyu Aji, explained that the quality of the crude oil produced from the wells in the Klantung area is quite good because it has a low water content.

“This condition makes the potential of the crude oil wells in Kendal still very viable for long-term management. The quality is also good and the water content is very low, so the potential remains good for several years to come,” said Wahyu Aji.

The Head of Sojomerto Village, Rindu Rimba, appreciated the exploration of oil wells in his area. He hopes that the presence of the oil wells can improve the local economy, especially for residents of Klantung hamlet.

In addition to creating job opportunities for local residents, the presence of the oil wells is also expected to boost the potential of the region, which has been known since Dutch colonial times as having oil resources.

“In Klantung hamlet, there are remnants of oil wells from the Dutch era that are still active. Previously, they could not be managed optimally, but now they are being reactivated and hopefully will benefit the community,” said Rindu.

Rindu hopes that with the start of the first shipment of crude oil to Pertamina Cepu, the production of community-owned oil wells in Kendal Regency will continue to grow. “So that it can become a driver of the local economy,” said Rindu.
