Crowds Gather at Hotel Sultan to Oppose Eviction Execution
A crowd of protesters gathered at the Hotel Sultan site in Blok 15 of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex in Central Jakarta on Thursday (18/6) ahead of a planned eviction execution. A command vehicle was seen parked in the hotel’s drop-off area, and an orator addressed the crowd, voicing opposition to the execution. Banners rejecting the eviction were displayed on the building, bearing messages such as ‘Reject the Seizure of the Indigenous-Owned Hotel Sultan’, ‘Reject the Hotel Sultan Execution’, and ‘Hotel Sultan is Not a GBK Asset’. The execution by the Central Jakarta District Court bailiffs was scheduled for 09:00 WIB. A total of 3,161 joint personnel from the police, military, and local government were deployed to secure the process. Kharis Sucipto, the lawyer representing the State Secretariat Minister and the GBK Area Management Centre (PPKGBK), confirmed there would be no postponement of the execution. He stated that the execution order for the Blok 15 land had been set by the Central Jakarta District Court for Thursday, 18 June 2026, and would proceed as planned. Kharis added that a notice of execution had been delivered to PT Indobuildco, the hotel’s management company, urging them and any occupants to voluntarily vacate the land and buildings. He stressed that if they refused to leave voluntarily, the execution would still go ahead, and any resulting consequences would not be the responsibility of the Central Jakarta District Court.
