Jakarta (ANTARA) - The gate of the office of the Mayor of South Jakarta, Kebayoran Baru, was damaged by protesters who held a demonstration at the office on Friday (6 March).

“Yes, they (protesters) damaged the gate,” said the Head of the Unit for National Unity and Politics (Kesbangpol) of South Jakarta, Dirhamul Nugraha, when contacted in Jakarta on Saturday.

Dirhamul confirmed the damage to the gate door carried out by the protesters during the demonstration. They asked to meet with officials of the South Jakarta City Government.

In their speech, they accused that there are still a number of night entertainment venues operating in South Jakarta during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri.

However, he said, the crowd did not clearly specify the locations of the entertainment venues they referred to. In fact, the city government is ready to act if there are reports supported by data.

“We asked where the entertainment venues that are open are so we can act, but they did not want to name them,” he said.

After some time of delivering the speech, the crowd eventually dispersed from the location.

Dirhamul said the protesters asked to meet with the leaders of the South Jakarta City Government to submit their aspirations directly.

“Yes, they asked to meet the leader on Monday (9/3),” said Dirhamul.
