Cross-Agency Funding Collaboration Accelerates Post-Disaster Recovery in Sumatra
The Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Task Force has emphasised that the acceleration of recovery in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra is being achieved through cross-ministerial and inter-agency collaboration, particularly in strengthening funding to meet the basic needs of disaster-affected communities.
The Chairman of the Sumatra Post-Disaster PRR Task Force, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, stated that the central government has allocated substantial budgetary support to ensure the rehabilitation and reconstruction processes are rapid and precisely targeted.
“This recovery requires budget. We are grateful to President Prabowo Subianto for providing additional regional financial transfer (TKD) funds amounting to IDR 10.6 trillion for the three provinces, all of which has been fully transferred,” he said in a press release.
Tito made these remarks following a meeting with the Chairman of the PRR Task Force Steering Team, Pratikno, in Jakarta. He noted that the Task Force is closely monitoring the funds, which are currently held by various regencies, cities, and provinces, to ensure that planning is accurate and urgent matters are addressed swiftly.
In addition to the regional financial transfers, several ministries are contributing through sectoral programmes. The Ministry of Agriculture has provided over IDR 877 billion for land optimisation, post-disaster agricultural rehabilitation, and the construction of irrigation systems in affected areas.
In the social sector, assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs has reached IDR 896.2 billion, with a distribution realisation of 96.75 per cent. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is accelerating recovery through aid for the repair of lightly and moderately damaged houses, with a total value of IDR 655.18 billion. This assistance aims to help thousands of survivor families repair their homes and rebuild their lives.
Cross-agency collaboration also extends to the education sector. To date, total educational revitalisation assistance from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has reached IDR 2.94 trillion, covering 3,058 school revitalisation projects across the three affected provinces. This multi-sectoral funding serves as a vital foundation to ensure that recovery focuses not only on physical reconstruction but also on the gradual and sustainable restoration of the community’s social and economic conditions.
