Crocodile That Attacked Selviana Cut Open; Its Legs Dismembered
The crocodile that attacked a woman, Selviana Ambu Kaka, 24, was captured after the incident in the Bondo Kodi River, Kodi District, Southwest Sumba (SBD). Residents then slaughtered the crocodile, cut open its belly and severed its legs. Selviana was attacked while bathing in the river on Friday (23 October 2026). Her body was found the following morning, Saturday (24 October 2026).
“That’s right. After it was captured, its belly was cut open to check whether the victim had been swallowed,” Sidiq told detikBali on Sunday (25 October 2026).
A three-minute-and-29-second video that went viral on social media showed several men gathered around the large crocodile, which was lying on its back.
Crocodile carcass buried
Residents then skinned the crocodile, cut off its front legs and split open its belly with a machete. Many people gathered to watch the slaughter.
Afterwards, residents buried the remaining pieces of crocodile meat on the bank of the Bondo Kodi River.
“The crocodile’s body has been buried near the river,” Sidiq concluded.
Regent warns people against entering crocodile habitats
Southwest Sumba Regent Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wulla urged residents to limit their activities in areas that are crocodile habitats. Her warning followed the death of Selviana Ambu Kaka, 24, who was attacked while bathing in the Bondo Kodi River in Kodi District, Southwest Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
“I have often reminded the public not to carry out activities in places that are crocodile habitats,” Ratu Wulla told detikBali on Monday (26 October 2026).
Ratu Wulla said several areas in Southwest Sumba, including the Bondo Kodi River and Pero Beach, are major crocodile habitats. She said residents already know which locations are crocodile habitats.
“They know; there have been stories about the presence of crocodiles there for a long time,” Ratu Wulla explained.
Ratu Wulla said people often disregarded the warnings. Some residents still bathe, wash clothes and give water to livestock in crocodile habitats.
“Sometimes they forget, and then an incident happens where someone is attacked. In principle, they know there are crocodiles there,” Ratu Wulla concluded.
Selviana Ambu Kaka was killed by a crocodile while bathing in the Bondo Kodi River. She had gone there with her fiancé, Fabianus Dowa, and her sister-in-law, Imelda Dowa, to wash clothes at about 4.30pm local time.
Selviana, Fabianus and Imelda finished washing at about 7.30pm. Selviana and Fabianus then went straight into the river to bathe. The crocodile suddenly attacked Selviana; her fiancé and sister-in-law witnessed the incident.
The incident was immediately reported to the police and local authorities. Soon afterwards, police and residents went to the scene to search for Selviana. Her body was found at about 6am on Saturday (24 October).
