Cristiano Ronaldo set for Aceh visit
JAKARTA: Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo will visit Indonesia on a two-day fund-raising trip for tsunami relief, with fans given the opportunity to travel with him to Aceh or join him at a gala dinner.
The 20-year-old Manchester United player is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Saturday morning, and leave for Aceh the same day. His visit to the province devastated by the Dec. 26 tsunami will include a reunion with Martunis, the eight-year-old boy who survived the tsunami and was rescued in a red-and-green Portuguese jersey.
The pair met in Lisbon last week when Martunis was invited on a special trip to watch Portugal's defeat of Slovakia in the World Cup qualifiers.
Ronaldo, whose trip is sponsored by energy drink maker PT Bintang Toedjoe, is also scheduled to meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Sunday.
Several options, from flying to Aceh with Ronaldo or attending the dinner, are available, with donations ranging from Rp 3 million to Rp 7 million. All proceeds will go toward tsunami relief, the event organizer said.
