Crisis halts hospital project
TANGERANG: Residents of Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) housing estate in Serpong district, Tangerang regency, have complained about a neglected hospital development project, which has been abandoned for the last five years.
They blamed the housing estate developer for having turned a blind eye and for not showing responsibility for the project.
"BSD is meant to be a new independent town, meaning that all different types of public facilities should be available. That was the main reason for us buying a house here," a resident who lives in the BSD Giri Loka resort told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
BSD is home to about 62,000 residents.
BSD spokesman Dhony Rahajoe said that BSD had nothing to do with the hospital construction project that began in 1996. He said the hospital was built by Malaysian investor Kumpulan Perobatan Johor (KPJ) in cooperation with local investor Tria Dipa Group. "Its construction was halted in 1997 when the country was hit by monetary crisis." --JP
