Criminal Investigation Division Uncovers Drug Convict 'Encek' Controlled Transnational Drug Trafficking While Fugitive
A drug convict who escaped from the Class IIB Sukadana Detention Centre in East Lampung, Bayu Wicaksono, also known as Encek, has been arrested in Myanmar. During his period as a fugitive, Encek is alleged to have acted as a controller for a transnational drug network.
“The individual named Bayu Wicaksono is involved in a case concerning the control of methamphetamine distribution across international borders,” stated the Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Division for Narcotics at the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri), Kombes Albert Raden Deddy Sulistyo Nugroho, to journalists at Bareskrim Polri, South Jakarta, on Sunday (30/08/2026).
“Therefore, while he was fleeing to Malaysia, he continued to control his methamphetamine network across borders,” he added.
Albert detailed Encek’s escape route used to evade authorities. After successfully fleeing Indonesia, Encek frequently moved between countries, starting from Malaysia, until he was apprehended in Myanmar.
“After leaving Indonesia for Malaysia, he then went to Thailand, before eventually being secured in the Tachileik area, on the border of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar,” said Albert.
Encek has now arrived at Bareskrim Polri to undergo further interrogation. Police are also investigating the possibility that other parties assisted in Bayu’s escape over the past two years.
“The individual in question is now in our custody and has just arrived in the country. More complete details will be provided after we have conducted the interrogation,” Albert added.
