Criminal Investigation Division examines DWP management regarding Whip Pink case

Investigators from the Narcotics Crime Directorate of the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Division (Bareskrim) in Jakarta conducted an examination of the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) management on Monday, regarding the promotion of the ‘Whip Pink’ brand N2O gas.

Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri, stated that the examination focused on deepening the investigation into the sales promotions of Whip Pink. The investigation specifically looks into promotions conducted alongside the DWP event in 2023. Following the interrogation, the DWP management expressed willingness to provide further statements to Bareskrim.

Previously, on Friday night, investigators interrogated an influencer, identified by the initials ZNM (20), regarding the same matter. ZNM was questioned for six hours with 30 questions concerning the use of Whip Pink gas, which had gone viral on the ‘Makassar Inpo’ Instagram account. During the interrogation, ZNM admitted to using the gas for the first time while on holiday in Bali and noted that they had purchased the gas in both Jakarta and Makassar. The witness stated that the motive for the purchase was curiosity after being told about it by a friend, adding that the effects of the gas included physical pain and a ‘fly’ sensation. One of the witness’s friends, who used the substance, is currently experiencing temporary paralysis.

In connection with this case, the Narcotics Crime Directorate has summoned five individuals as witnesses in the ongoing investigation into the producers of Whip Pink N2O gas. In April 2022, Bareskrim Polri successfully uncovered a factory producing Whip Pink brand N2O gas in Jakarta. Interrogations of nine arrested witnesses revealed that PT SSS, the producer, does not possess the necessary legality or BPOM distribution permits for the production and sale of Whip Pink N2O gas. Furthermore, the owners of the production site and shipping warehouse were identified as AH, SC, and JH. The Whip Pink distribution network spans 10 cities, with 16 warehouse locations ranging from Jakarta and Yogyakarta to Lombok. Whip Pink is a brand of small gas canisters containing nitrous oxide (N2O), commonly known as ‘laughing gas’.
