Crimes at Pulogadung
Crimes at Pulogadung
From Neraca
The Pulogadung bus station in eastern Jakarta is becoming
infested with pickpockets and robbers who prey on passengers.
One day during the recent Christmas and New Year holidays I
saw a gang of youths grabbing the necklace of a young lady at
knife point just before she was getting on a bus.
I failed to give a hand, knowing that the gang comprised more
than five people. The lady was defenseless and obviously
overwhelmed with terror.
Judging from the fearless manner of the youths when they
conducted their crime, I theorized that they must have powerful
backing around the bus terminal.
This was not the first time I witnessed a robbery in its
starkest realities. The second one was when the same gang of
youths preyed on a man who was also getting on a bus. The youths
surrounded this man and frisked him before finding a wallet which
they took without the man being aware of what had happened.
I was equally despaired since I could not do anything to help
the man. I can only appeal to the police to place watchful eyes
on this gang of youths so that bus passengers will feel more
secure during their trips.
