Crime roundup: Journalist defamation case, sexual harassment on Transjakarta
A number of security-related incidents occurred in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/7), ranging from the Metro Jaya Police deepening their investigation into two reports of alleged defamation of a journalist by a lawyer, to Transjakarta blacklisting a suspected perpetrator of sexual harassment on a bus on the Puri Beta route.
The Metro Jaya Police are still reviewing two police reports filed against a lawyer with the initials HP, and are examining the statements of the complainants and the evidence submitted. The Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that investigators are currently focused on the verification and initial analysis stage of the case files received. “Investigators will review the report and will examine the complainant and the evidence,” Budi said when confirmed in Jakarta.
The South Jakarta Immigration Office has deported a Dutch national with the initials TAV for allegedly damaging hotel facilities, an act deemed to endanger public security and order while in Indonesia. “The incident began when the hotel management reported the damage to the Mampang Police,” said the Head of the South Jakarta Immigration Office, Winarko, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. The information was subsequently forwarded to the South Jakarta Immigration Office for further handling.
Police are investigating a gang of motorcycle thieves suspected of stealing four motorcycles at once from a boarding house in the Kalisari area, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta. “It is still under investigation, the Pasar Rebo Police criminal investigation team is in the process of inquiry,” said Pasar Rebo Police Chief AKP I Wayan Wijaya when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Metro Jaya Police have examined 25 witnesses in connection with an alleged defamation and slander case against a complainant with the initials OP, a doctor, involving the sending of flower wreaths. The Head of the Public Information Sub-Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Division, AKBP Onkoseno RS, said the case was reported directly by OP after receiving several flower wreaths deemed to contain slanderous narratives. “We can convey that OP filed a police report with the Metro Jaya Police regarding a case of slander and/or defamation,” Onkoseno said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) confirmed an alleged sexual harassment incident on a bus on the Puri Beta route and ensured the suspected perpetrator was removed and handed over to the authorities. Transjakarta’s Head of Public Relations and CSR, Ayu Wardhani, said management regretted the incident and stressed that the safety and comfort of service users is the top priority. “The security and comfort of customers is Transjakarta’s main priority. Responding to the alleged sexual harassment incident that occurred, we regret and confirm the incident,” Ayu said when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
