Crime roundup: Alcohol raids and police foil cocaine distribution

Jakarta (ANTARA) - A number of criminal incidents occurred in the Jakarta area and its surroundings on Sunday (22/2), ranging from an alcohol raid in North Jakarta to the foiling of a one-kilogramme cocaine distribution ring by police in West Jakarta.

1. Joint team conducts alcohol raid in North Jakarta at start of Ramadan

A joint team comprising North Jakarta’s Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) together with military and police elements carried out simultaneous alcohol raids across six sub-districts at the beginning of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

“During the operation, officers confiscated a total of 637 bottles of alcohol of various brands,” said North Jakarta Satpol PP chief Budhy Novian in Jakarta on Sunday.

2. Residents and police foil youth brawl in Depok

A number of residents assisted police in preventing a group of youths suspected of planning a brawl on Jalan Rawasari Cipayung, Depok, West Java, in the early hours of Saturday (21/2).

“The role of residents is crucial. Collaboration like this helps prevent incidents that could endanger both the youths themselves and the surrounding community,” said Jakarta Metropolitan Police public relations chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto in Jakarta on Sunday.

3. Police foil distribution of one kilogramme of cocaine in West Jakarta

Jakarta Metropolitan Police thwarted the distribution of cocaine weighing a gross total of 1,001.76 grammes in the West Jakarta area on Thursday (19/2) and arrested one male suspect with the initials A (31).

“The suspect is from Bengkalis, Riau. The evidence was obtained by the suspect from Malaysia and was planned for distribution in the Jakarta area,” said Sub-directorate 3 of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Narcotics Directorate team leader Assistant Commissioner Abdul in Jakarta on Sunday.
