Creative Hands of Apul Transform Used Plastic Bottles into Artistic Wayang Puppets

In the hands of Apul, used plastic bottles no longer end up as waste. Through a touch of creativity, plastic waste is processed into upcycled wayang with artistic value that not only extends the useful life of the material, but also opens up economic opportunities. The works born from the Pa-Q-One Waste Bank in Yogyakarta have now been marketed to various regions in Indonesia.

Apul (38) completes the making of an upcycled wayang at the Pa-Q-One Waste Bank. The upcycled wayang serves as an example of utilising plastic waste into creative products that have both artistic and economic value.

Each work is sold starting from Rp125,000 per piece, depending on the size, level of complexity, and the wayang character created. Apul’s works have penetrated the national market and are in demand as craft products, souvenirs, and art collections based on recycling.

Through creativity in processing plastic waste, the Pa-Q-One Waste Bank encourages the growth of public awareness that waste can have new value while supporting environmental conservation.
