Creative Economy Ministry Targets Rp157 Trillion Investment by 2027
The Creative Economy Ministry (Kemenekraf) is targeting investment in the creative economy sector to reach between Rp133.74 trillion and Rp157.65 trillion by 2027. Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that these figures were set as instruments to support the government’s work plan direction for the coming year, as well as to implement the strategic mandate from the President through the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). “This target affirms the creative economy sector’s role as a new engine driving structural transformation towards a creativity-based economy, while strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market,” Riefky said during a meeting with House of Representatives Commission VII in Jakarta, as quoted on Tuesday (16/6/2026). He continued that under the same mandate, the ministry is also targeted to contribute 5.8% to gross domestic product (GDP) growth, 5.5% export growth, and an export value of US$29.39 billion. Additionally, there is an investment growth target range of 6.2% to 7.6%, and a creative economy sector employment absorption target of 26.58 million people. According to him, the creative economy sector can contribute significantly to government efforts, particularly in the people’s economy and village cluster, poverty reduction, downstreaming and industrialisation, as well as post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction. Riefky outlined several ideas to achieve these objectives, including creative village activation programmes, creative hub activation, the Creative by Indonesia campaign, and support for community economic recovery in post-disaster areas. “Thus, the 2027 creative economy programme does not stand alone as a sectoral programme, but becomes an instrument to strengthen national priority agendas in creating jobs, increasing community income, strengthening local potential, and accelerating equitable regional development,” he said. On the same occasion, he also informed the House that the Creative Economy Ministry still requires an additional budget of Rp1.73 trillion from the indicative ceiling of the upcoming state budget. According to him, this amount is needed to strengthen the ministry’s performance in achieving these various targets, so it does not solely rely on operational needs.
