Creative Economy Ministry Strengthens Sumedang's Creative Workforce Through Digitalisation
The Ministry of Creative Economy (Kemenekraf) is strengthening the quality of human resources (SDM) in the creative economy in Sumedang Regency by enhancing digital-based competencies, aiming to increase the competitiveness of creative business actors and expand market access.
Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that regions with strong cultural and historical roots have significant opportunities to develop the creative economy if supported by innovation, technology, and creativity.
“The characteristics of a region with great creative economy potential are those with strong cultural and historical roots. If culture becomes the upstream element, then combined with the downstreaming of innovation, technology, and creativity, that is where the creative economy is born,” Riefky said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
This effort was realised through the “Sumedang Go Digital” programme, organised by the Ministry’s Human Resources Development Centre (Pusbang SDM) at the Sumedang Creative Center (SCC) on Tuesday. The activity was attended by more than 150 creative economy activists and content creators from 26 sub-districts in Sumedang Regency.
He assessed that Sumedang has great potential to become a community-based creative economy growth centre, making human resource capacity building a strategic step to optimise this potential.
According to Riefky, digital transformation must be utilised not only as a marketing tool but also to improve human resource quality, strengthen the creative economy ecosystem, encourage innovation, expand collaboration, protect intellectual property, and optimise the use of technology across the 21 sub-sectors of the creative economy.
“West Java is one of the priority provinces for strategic creative economy development. Therefore, the Ministry of Creative Economy will continue to collaborate so that Sumedang’s creative economy not only develops at the national level but is also able to go global,” he said.
The “Sumedang Go Digital” programme, which serves as a pilot project for the Ministry’s Human Resources Development Centre, equipped participants with materials on business development strategies, brand and product positioning strengthening, the use of social media for business, digital marketing through marketplaces, and strategies for building sustainable businesses in the digital era.
In addition to the training, the Creative Economy Minister also reviewed various facilities at the Sumedang Creative Center, which serves as a space for developing creative talent, ranging from dance and music practice, batik workshops, photography, and architecture, to collaborative activities across sub-sectors.
Meanwhile, Sumedang Deputy Regent Muhammad Fajar Aldila appreciated the Ministry of Creative Economy’s support in strengthening the capacity of creative economy actors in the region. According to him, synergy between the central and regional governments is crucial capital for developing creative economy potential while optimising the function of the Sumedang Creative Center as a collaboration hub.
He expressed hope that the guidance provided would encourage Sumedang’s creative economy actors to become more competitive, open new business opportunities, and contribute more significantly to economic growth and community welfare.
