Creative Economy Ministry pushes local brands to compete in premium districts
SCBD, often regarded as too premium for MSMEs, has today proven otherwise, with everyone gathering, selling and showcasing extraordinary products based on local materials and local wisdom.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) is encouraging the expansion of market access for local creative economy players so they can compete in premium locations or districts such as SCBD Park, in order to broaden the ecosystem.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar applauded the staging of The Local Market ID: Pasar Wiwitan SCBD at SCBD Park, which demonstrates that local brands and MSMEs can take over venues often considered premium with products rooted in local wisdom.
“SCBD, which is often seen as too premium for MSMEs, has today proven otherwise — everyone is gathering, selling and displaying extraordinary products based on local ingredients and local wisdom. For the public, let us strengthen the foundations of the national economy by making a habit of being proud to buy and use domestic products,” said Irene in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
She said the President had mandated a collective effort to advance Indonesian creative products. In addition, this collaborative space with The Local Market and SCBD serves as a platform for local creators to expand market access sustainably.
The significant potential of local products to reinforce the creative economy’s position as an engine of national economic growth is evident in data from BPS processed by the Ministry of Creative Economy.
For the fashion, crafts and culinary subsectors, the largest exports of creative economy goods were recorded in the January–April 2026 period, reaching 5.85 billion US dollars, 3.82 billion US dollars and 0.28 billion US dollars respectively.
Furthermore, these three subsectors were the main pillars of the creative economy in 2025, contributing 41.06 per cent from culinary, 14.77 per cent from fashion and 10.70 per cent from crafts.
“Collaboration between the Ministry of Creative Economy and stakeholders is key to supporting this ecosystem, so that we continually return to our cultural roots and preserve local wisdom for generations to come,” she said.
The Local Market ID is held regularly every first weekend of each month from 1–2 August 2026 until the 5–6 September 2026 edition, as a free-entry monthly creative market promoting hexahelix collaboration between government, curators, public space providers and creative economy champions.
The programme was initiated by PT Ku Ka Aku Suka (The Local Market ID) together with the Ministry of Creative Economy and Creative Event Entertainment (CEE), with support from Artha Graha Group. It features more than 200 curated tenants, spanning culinary, crafts, fashion, antiques, workshops and music performances, serving as a platform to promote creativity whilst preserving Indonesia’s cultural heritage.
“CEE’s collaboration with The Local Market ID through Pasar Wiwitan SCBD is a step towards creating public spaces that connect communities, creative players and the public, whilst strengthening SCBD as a destination that is not only a business hub but also a centre of creative and cultural activity,” said CEE Director Ananta Pribadi.
A number of tenants from various creative economy subsectors took part, including Allysia, KASI Living, Saiya, Lyka, Habitat Park and the Artha Graha Peduli Pavilion. One participant from the Ministry of Creative Economy’s Open Call curation, the brand Goodthings, appreciated The Local Market for helping expand the market for men’s and women’s clothing featuring Nusantara textiles, such as batik cardigans and modern ethnic wear.
Angela, co-founder of Goodthings, said that when taking part in the August edition, the brand achieved a turnover of up to Rp14 million in two days.
According to her, the event has had a major impact on creative economy players in terms of social media followers, increased buyer repurchases and expanded potential new customers drawn from premium districts such as SCBD.
