Creative Economy Ministry pushes digital innovation for IP protection and tech sovereignty

The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) is supporting digital innovation to strengthen the protection of intellectual property, or copyright, for works by Indonesian creators as part of efforts to reinforce national technological sovereignty. Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that the government is backing this innovation through the facilitation of a pilot project for the development of HDXV (High Definition Extended Value) smart file technology, which includes technical validation, limited testing with industry partners, and evaluation of technical aspects and business models. “The government is fully committed to championing the technological independence of our nation’s creations. By strengthening the innovation ecosystem and enforcing strict intellectual property protection, we must ensure that the commercialisation of this technology delivers real economic impact for creative industry players,” Riefky said in a statement on Wednesday. The HDXV technology is seen as aligning with the government’s agenda to increase the added value of the creative economy, expand the utilisation of intellectual property, and build a secure and competitive digital ecosystem. Director of New Digital Technology Dandy Yudha Feryawan noted that the development is part of a strategy to capture digital innovations that can support IP protection, digital transformation, and the competitiveness of Indonesia’s technology-based creative economy. “This process is expected to open wider collaboration opportunities. It represents the Ministry’s strategy to expand partnerships with national innovators to drive innovation downstream, technology commercialisation, and the development of relevant digital solutions for the creative economy’s needs,” he added. HDXV founder Hardiyanto explained that the technology’s vision is to deliver a digital solution that prioritises quality, work protection, and data sovereignty. Beyond supporting high-quality audio distribution and offline use, the technology is expected to serve as an alternative digital music distribution model that provides added value for creators while opening new business model opportunities. The implementation of HDXV will initially focus on strengthening transparency in licence management, reinforcing copyright protection, and increasing the economic value of creative works. The concept is also considered potentially applicable to electronic books, e-journals, digital magazines, electronic certificates, e-diplomas, video, film, and various other digital document formats. Through collaboration between the government, innovators, academics, industry players, and creative communities, the Ministry hopes that more home-grown digital innovations will emerge to strengthen intellectual property protection, drive national digital transformation, accelerate innovation downstream, and enhance the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s creative economy.
