Vanreko Varkas Bagaskara, a civil servant from the Ministry of Creative Economy, has passed away after suffering a heatstroke during the Reserve Component Military Basic Training (Latsarmil Komcad) at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta. Vanreko briefly regained consciousness after receiving medical treatment before his condition turned critical, leading to his death.

The Head of RSAU dr Esnawan Antariksa, Colonel Dr Iman Fathurrohman, stated that the incident occurred on Friday (25/09/2026) at approximately 09:30 WIB, just as Vanreko had completed the first session of the training closing ceremony.

As he was preparing to enter the second training session, Vanreko complained of dizziness and blurred vision, subsequently losing consciousness. The medical team from Pusdikkes, stationed at the training site under the leadership of Dr Iriane Dewi, immediately provided first aid on-site.

Initial examinations revealed that Vanreko was suffering from hypotension and elevated body temperature, indicating a heatstroke caused by physical exertion and weather exposure. Medical personnel performed cooling procedures, administered intravenous fluids, and provided oxygen therapy before transporting him to the Emergency Department of RSAU dr Esnawan Antariksa.

Upon arrival at the hospital, specialist doctors conducted haemodynamic observations, organ function evaluations, and respiratory support stabilisation. Vanreko’s condition temporarily improved by the evening.

“The patient regained consciousness, showed spontaneous reflex responses, and maintained stable vital signs,” Dr Iman noted.

However, at approximately 04:30 WIB on Saturday (26/09), Vanreko experienced a decline in consciousness following repeated seizures. This condition was identified as a systemic complication of heatstroke affecting vital organ functions.

The medical team at RSAU dr Esnawan acted swiftly, coordinating with RSPAD Gatot Soebroto for a referral to neuro-intensive care. Vanreko was transported via an ICU-standard ambulance to RSPAD Gatot Soebroto, accompanied by medical teams and Air Force Military Police personnel. He arrived at the RSPAD Emergency Department at 11:30 WIB for a head CT scan and intensive ICU care.

Treatment was carried out under the supervision of the Physician in Charge, Dr Tanov, Sp.S, alongside officials from Pusdikkes and the Indonesian Ministry of Defence.

“Despite the combined medical teams from Pusdikkes, RSAU dr Esnawan Antariksa, and RSPAD Gatot Soebroto deploying their best medical efforts and maximum intensive care, the Almighty willed otherwise. Mr Vanreko Varkas Bagaskara, S.Pd., has been declared deceased,” he stated.

Dr Iman expressed condolences on behalf of the TNI Medical Team and the Komcad training organisers. The funeral arrangements and family support are being facilitated by the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Creative Economy, and relevant agencies.

“The deceased was a young patriot who was dedicated, possessed integrity, and demonstrated an extraordinary spirit of national defence. The entire process, from the final respects to the transportation of the body to the family home and the provision of facilities for the family, is being fully facilitated by the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Creative Economy, and related institutions,” he added.
