Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency Teuku Riefky Harsya is encouraging the development of intellectual property (IP) for films that highlight local cultural themes, which can subsequently help boost regional economies. The Creative Economy Ministry will develop the film ‘Foufo’, produced by SKAK Studios and SinemArt, through a series of hearings, strategic collaboration opportunities, IP strengthening, facilitation of cross-sector strategic partnerships, and expanding awareness of the film through various opportunities. “Culture is not only preserved but can also be downstreamed through creativity, innovation, and technology, thereby providing economic benefits. We hope that more filmmakers in various regions will be bold enough to showcase local wisdom through creative works,” said the Creative Economy Minister in a statement received on Sunday. The Minister emphasised that ‘Foufo’ is tangible proof that culture can serve as the foundation for creative economy products that add value for the community. The courage to use regional languages, provide space for new talent, and develop IP are strategic steps to strengthen the national creative economy ecosystem. “Today we see that commitment has materialised into a work ready to be enjoyed by the public. This proves that stories from the regions can be compelling viewing while possessing economic potential,” said Riefky. ‘Foufo’ director and SKAK Studios Founder, Bayu Skak, expressed appreciation for the Creative Economy Ministry’s support, which has helped open networks and facilitate production in the regions. He noted that the ministry’s vision of building the creative economy from the regions aligns perfectly with the spirit of ‘Foufo’. The film will not stop at being a cinematic work but is also being developed as an IP supported through merchandise and various creative activations. The film, featuring dialogue predominantly in a regional language, is scheduled for simultaneous release in cinemas across Indonesia on 9 July 2026.
