Creative Economy Ministry and Higher Education Ministry Strengthen Creative Ecosystem via Rindekraf

The Ministry of Creative Economy (Kemenekraf) is partnering with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) to strengthen the creative ecosystem through the role of universities as part of the implementation of the Creative Economy Master Plan (Rindekraf) 2026–2045. Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasised that universities hold a strategic position in producing talent, generating innovation, and driving the downstreaming of research results to meet industry needs. “Kemendiktisaintek is part of the Rindekraf Coordination Team. Therefore, aligning programmes is crucial so that the implementation of the action plan runs in an integrated manner and universities can become drivers of creative talent, research, and innovation development that supports national creative economic growth,” Riefky said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday. In implementing Rindekraf, the two ministries agreed on three main focuses: strengthening creative economy research through the utilisation of research findings by industry, organising conferences, and a matching fund programme. Secondly, preparing creative human resources through the development of industry-based curricula, strengthening internship programmes, and developing creative economy learning. Additionally, expanding intellectual property (IP) protection through the establishment of IP centres at universities. Beyond executing the action plan, the two ministries are also opening up new cooperation opportunities, ranging from mapping research needs aligned with industry requirements, providing scholarships in the creative economy field, to strengthening the Creative Economy Higher Education Consortium. To reinforce the ecosystem, Kemenekraf is also preparing flagship programmes such as Creative Villages, Creative Hubs, and Creative by Indonesia. These programmes are designed to encourage the emergence of creative talent capable of competing at both national and global levels, while simultaneously creating new job opportunities. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that his ministry is ready to integrate the implementation of Rindekraf into various ministerial programmes. According to him, universities have a significant mandate to produce research and superior human resources needed by the creative industry. “Kemendiktisaintek is fully committed to implementing Rindekraf 2026–2045 through strengthening research, educational development, and facilitating IP protection. We see this as very promising; we will synergise it into our programmes,” said Brian. This collaboration is also part of the preparations for the 2026 World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) in Jakarta, which is expected to be a momentum to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global creative economy hub through the contribution of research, innovation, and evidence-based policy.
