Creative Economy Ministry and ANRI Strengthen Archive Governance to Support Creative Sector

The Ministry of Creative Economy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) to strengthen professional, modern, accountable, and sustainable archive governance as part of support for the development of the national creative economy sector. The signing of the MoU serves as a foundation for strengthening cooperation in archive management, enhancing human resource capacity, and developing archival systems that are adaptive to technological developments. “We believe that good archive governance not only supports the accountability of government administration but also ensures that the journey and achievements of Indonesia’s creative economy development are well documented as a collective memory of the nation that can be passed on to future generations,” said Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya in a statement received on Saturday. He stated that the creative economy, as a sector based on creativity, innovation, technology, and cultural wealth, continues to grow and makes a real contribution to national economic growth, including creating jobs and strengthening the nation’s competitiveness. In 2025, the creative economy sector recorded investment of Rp183 trillion, with GDP growth of 6.86 percent, surpassing the national economic growth of 5.11 percent, and absorbed 27.4 million workers, or 18.7 percent of the total national workforce. The magnitude of this contribution demands strong institutional governance through orderly data and archive management. Well-managed archives will become a strategic source of information in supporting data-driven policy making, so that the resulting policies are more targeted, measurable, and sustainable. “Through this collaboration, ANRI is committed not only to safeguarding national strategic archives but also to optimising them as educational, research, and academic reference materials to generate innovative creative economy products in the future,” said Head of ANRI, Mego Pinandito. The Creative Economy Ministry handed over two boxes of static archives from the former BEKRAF for the 2016–2019 period to ANRI. These archives record the early journey of national creative economy development, from the establishment of BEKRAF to various strategic programmes that became the foundation for developing Indonesia’s creative economy sector. Strengthening archive governance is an inseparable part of documenting every policy in an orderly, accountable, and sustainable manner to realise a professional and modern bureaucracy.
