Creative Economy Minister Plans to Activate Creative Villages Across Indonesia
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that his ministry will activate creative villages as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s assignment to support engines of economic growth in Indonesia. “Activating creative villages does not mean building new villages, because local governments have certainly already fostered and mapped where creative villages exist. This is about how we activate them,” Riefky said in Yogyakarta on Saturday. According to him, the programme is one of three main assignments from President Prabowo Subianto to the Ministry of Creative Economy, namely the activation of creative villages, activation of creative hubs, and Creative by Indonesia. “Of course, it is not about building, but activating, starting from the quality of the workforce, market access, funding access, then IP financing and so on,” he explained. Riefky will also activate creative hubs because many creative groups in the regions have already been established, whether on campuses, in communities, or by local governments, with the aim of absorbing labour in various activities. “So, thank you to the regional heads and their staff who continue to foster creative economy activists in various regions,” he said. Thirdly, Riefky continued, the Ministry of Creative Economy will also strengthen the branding of Creative by Indonesia as a local brand so it can be enhanced and enter both national and global markets. “So, Creative by Indonesia is like Wonderful Indonesia in tourism. Creative by Indonesia is an example of an IP (Intellectual Property) or brand that we are now working to elevate into the national market and later into the global market,” he explained. He mentioned that these three assignments will be intensified starting from the second semester of this year, through the following year until 2029, in collaboration with local governments. “We have the spirit of making the creative economy a new engine of national economic growth that starts from the regions,” Riefky said.
