Creative Economy Minister: Flagship Programmes to Boost Creative Sector's GDP Contribution
Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that the ministry’s flagship programmes are designed to drive growth in the creative economy sector, enabling it to contribute significantly to the gross domestic product (GDP). He explained that these flagship programmes, namely Creative Village Activation, Creative Hub, and Creative by Indonesia, are designed to propel local businesses onto the national and global stage. “We also have a substantial market opportunity in our region. So our hope is that these 17 to 21 sub-sectors will be able to rise in the coming years,” he said at the 2026 Economic Census for the Creative Economy Sector event in Jakarta on Monday. He noted that various job opportunities can be created for the public through these 17 creative economy sub-sectors, citing examples such as automotive modification, new technologies like blockchain or artificial intelligence, digital content, and voice-over work. Teuku Riefky stated that the creative economy sector has been mapped as an engine of economic growth included in the Asta Cita under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, which also aims to increase quality employment. He added that the Creative Economy Ministry is also mandated to be involved in poverty alleviation and the eradication of extreme poverty, as well as serving as an acceleration task force to support national economic growth under the direction of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs. Riefky expressed optimism that the creative economy sector can contribute to national economic growth, which is targeted to reach 8 per cent by 2029.
