Creative Economy Investment in Karawang Surges to Rp4.46 Trillion in 2025
Karawang — The development of the creative economy subsector in Karawang Regency, West Java is showing positive trends, having recorded investment values of approximately Rp4.46 trillion throughout 2025.
Abas Sudrajat, Head of the Department of Tourism, Youth and Sports (Disparpora) of Karawang, announced in Karawang on Monday that this investment achievement is supported by a strong ecosystem comprising 352 companies encompassing 117 classifications under Indonesia’s Standard Business Classification (KBLI) for the creative economy subsector.
Karawang is increasingly consolidating its position as a leading investment destination in West Java, particularly in the creative economy subsector.
Karawang has recorded creative economy industry investment of Rp4.46 trillion, contributing 8.31 per cent towards West Java Province’s total creative economy industry investment valued at Rp53.3 trillion.
The highest investment achievement is reached by the applications subsector with investment values of Rp3 trillion. This subsector is dominated by global technology companies and large-scale digital infrastructure such as PT Amazon Data Services Indonesia, PT Microsoft Operations Indonesia, PT Datacenter Indonesia Sukses Makmur, and PT Allage Milenial Indonesia, as well as similar companies.
Although absorbing only 37 workers, this sector represents a capital-intensive industry category that forms the backbone of Karawang’s future economy.
“This dominance of investment in high technology represents a signal that Karawang is transforming towards a digital economy,” he said.
This presents a significant challenge for Karawang’s human resources to continuously improve quality and technical capacity in order to have high competitiveness and be absorbed into world-class technology industries.
In contrast with the applications sector, the crafts, culinary, and fashion subsectors serve as the main pillars in absorbing large-scale labour in Karawang.
The crafts subsector ranks second with investment of Rp845 billion. This subsector absorbs the highest number of workers, reaching 1,639 people, driven by companies such as PT Kobin Keramik Industri and PT Concord Industry as well as similar companies.
The fashion subsector then records investment of Rp70 billion with an absorption of 206 workers, supported by companies such as PT Chang Shin Indonesia and PT Scenic International Trading as well as similar companies.
According to Abas, this creative economy industry investment creates a balanced ecosystem. The applications subsector provides technology, crafts and fashion provide aesthetic products, and the culinary sector provides basic needs. If these four are managed in an integrated manner, he said, then Karawang will have a growth engine that is not only powerful but also inclusive for all its residents.
