Creative economy growth in East Java is expected to progress more effectively, according to Rian Septrianto Maulana, chairman of the East Java branch of the National Creative Economy Movement (Gekrafs).

“We are optimistic that creative economy growth in East Java will proceed more effectively over the coming periods. This includes our commitment to complete the establishment of management structures across all 38 districts and cities in East Java,” Maulana said in an official statement on Saturday, 28 February.

This statement came following a regional consultation (Muswil) held in Surabaya the previous week, which resulted in a proposal for the next chairman of Gekrafs East Java for the 2026-2029 term. All district-level branches in attendance unanimously nominated Rian Septrianto Maulana to continue his leadership in the next period.

The nomination will subsequently be submitted to the Gekrafs national board (DPP) for follow-up according to organisational procedures. The meeting served as a strategic opportunity to optimise the organisation’s role in strengthening and accelerating growth in East Java’s creative economy sector.

In his accountability report for the 2021-2025 leadership term, Maulana outlined how his tenure has achieved various priority programmes focused on accelerating creative economy sector growth in East Java. One of the key accomplishments during this period has been the establishment of district-level Gekrafs structures in 25 of East Java’s municipalities and cities.

Although this does not yet cover all administrative areas, this achievement has made Gekrafs East Java the region with the highest number of such structures nationally to date. Maulana expressed appreciation for the trust shown by all district branches throughout East Java.

According to him, this support reflects a collective determination to maximise the potential of the creative economy in the region. “This trust serves as motivation for us to continue strengthening the creative economy movement in East Java.”
