The Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) is set to evaluate the implementation of the Reserve Component (Komcad) for Civil Servants (ASN). This announcement was made by the Head of National Reserves (Kabacadnas) of the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General Gabriel Lema, in response to the passing of Vanreko Varkas Bagaskara (28), a civil servant from the Ministry of Creative Economy, during military basic training under the Komcad programme.

“Every programme activity will be evaluated,” he told reporters on Wednesday (30/09). However, Gabriel did not elaborate further on the specifics of the evaluation for the ASN Komcad basic training programme, only ensuring that a full-scale review would be conducted. “Everything. All mechanisms, all selection processes, and all existing stages,” he emphasised.

Previously, Vanreko Vaskas Bagaskara passed away on Saturday (26/09) while participating in the Komcad Military Basic Training at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta. The Head of RSAU dr. Esnawan Antariksa, Colonel Medical dr. Iman Fathurrohman, stated that Vanreko lost consciousness after complaining of blurred vision and dizziness at approximately 09:30 WIB.

At the time, Vanreko had just completed the first session of the training closing and was preparing for the second training session. Iman noted that initial examinations indicated Vanreko suffered from hypotension and increased body temperature, suggesting a heatstroke attack caused by physical response to weather exposure and exhaustion.

On-site personnel provided immediate treatment, including cooling via cold compresses, intravenous fluids, and oxygen therapy before Vanreko was transported to the Emergency Department of RSAU dr. Esnawan Antariksa Halim Perdanakusuma. Upon arrival at the hospital, Vanreko received treatment from a team of specialists. Examinations and monitoring were conducted on his haemodynamic condition and organ function, alongside respiratory support stabilisation.

“Continuous observation until Friday night at 19:00 WIB showed very positive progress; the patient regained consciousness, showed spontaneous reflex responses, and had stable vital signs,” he said. However, Vanreko’s condition deteriorated again in the early hours of Saturday (26/09). Around 04:30 WIB, he experienced recurrent seizures accompanied by a loss of consciousness. Iman stated this was a systemic complication of heatstroke affecting vital organ functions.

The RSAU medical team acted swiftly, coordinating with RSPAD Gatot Soebroto to facilitate a referral for advanced neuro-intensive care. Vanreko was transferred to RSPAD Gatot Soebroto using an ICU-standard ambulance, accompanied by a medical team and Air Force Military Police personnel. Upon arriving at the RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Emergency Department around 11:30 WIB, Vanreko underwent a head CT scan and received intensive care in the ICU.

“Despite the combined medical teams from Pusdikkes, RSAU dr. Esnawan Antariksa, and RSPAD Gatot Soebroto deploying their best medical efforts and maximum intensive care, it was not meant to be. Mr Vanreko Varkas Bagaskara, S.Pd., has been declared deceased,” he concluded.
