Creative Economy Becomes Jakarta's New Economic Pillar

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the creative economy sector is becoming a new economic pillar for Jakarta, alongside trade and services. “These three sectors have great potential to create jobs, attract investment, and enhance Jakarta’s competitiveness at both national and global levels,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Saturday (4/7). He emphasised that the Jakarta Provincial Government is accelerating the city’s transformation to join the ranks of the top 50 global cities by 2030. To achieve this target, he said, economic development will no longer rely solely on trade and services but will also be strengthened through the creative economy, the sports and lifestyle sector, and the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. “The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to provide support so that all of this potential can develop optimally,” Pramono stated. Pramono further revealed that Jakarta’s economic achievements continue to show a positive trend. In the first quarter of 2026, Jakarta’s economy grew by 5.59%, contributing 16.67% to the national economy. Additionally, Jakarta accounts for approximately 38% of national QRIS transactions and is supported by 422,191 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). “This data shows that Jakarta’s economic foundation is getting stronger,” Pramono asserted. He confirmed that the provincial government will continue to encourage innovation and digitalisation so that economic growth can be felt equally by all citizens. The administration is also working to strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs through the JakPreneur programme by enhancing business capacity, expanding access to financing, broadening market reach, and promoting digitalisation. “We want to ensure that every MSME player has an equal opportunity to grow. With sustainable support, Jakarta’s MSMEs are expected to become one of the main drivers of regional and national economic growth,” Pramono added.
