Creative Economy as New Growth Driver, West Java DPRD Pushes for Equitable Programmes
Commission II of the West Java Provincial DPRD has emphasised the importance of strengthening the creative economy (ekraf) ecosystem through innovation and digitalisation to increase the competitiveness of local business actors. This was stated during a working visit to the Deputy for Strategic Development of the Creative Economy at the Ministry of Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
Member of Commission II of the West Java DPRD, Agung Yansusan, stressed the importance of equitable distribution of creative economy programmes throughout West Java. He assessed that the development of ekraf must not be concentrated in certain areas only so that the potential of all regions can grow fairly and optimally. “Strengthening institutions as well as revising the regional regulation on the creative economy needs to be carried out to make it more adaptive to the times.”
Agung also highlighted the importance of protecting works through simplified copyright registration processes, both for UMKM logos, applications, and games. He encouraged innovation and breakthroughs based on local wisdom as the foundation for developing the creative economy in West Java. “With such ease, ekraf actors will be more assisted in developing their businesses,” he said.
Furthermore, he emphasised the need for synergy among regional device organisations (OPD) within the West Java Provincial Government so that ekraf programmes run effectively and integrated. In addition, collaboration between the central and regional governments is deemed crucial in formulating adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable policies.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chair of Commission II of the West Java DPRD, Lina Ruslinawati, assessed that digital technology developments must be optimally utilised by business actors, especially UMKM. According to her, social media has now become a strategic instrument in expanding markets and increasing the added value of products. “In the digital era, business actors are required to be adaptive. The utilisation of social media has proven effective in driving the growth of small and medium enterprises,” said Lina.
“Commission II of the West Java DPRD is committed to continuing to oversee the development of the creative economy so that it is equitable, competitive, and able to become a new economic growth driver throughout West Java,” concluded Agung.
