Create public harmony

Create public harmony

From Media Indonesia

As one among millions of Indonesians, I hope that the
government can restore harmony and security for its people to
prevent them from being victims of the battle involving the
political elite or the elite of nongovernmental organizations
(NGOs).

Unfortunately, voices of harmony, which put public safety
above other things, seem to deserve less attention in the mass
media. News stories about disagreements, differences and violence
are accorded all the attention, instead.

The media is now more interested in publishing the voice of
observers who dare to stand against their opponents or the
opinions of NGOs that have the guts to condemn the authorities.

In reality, there are calming voices from some groups that
have the true right to speak up, as they once felt the bitterness
of the New Order regime.

They are ex-political detainees and those who once opposed
some policies of the then all-powerful New Order rulers. This
time we are listening to the calming voices of the Mujahidin
Warsidi Talangsari group, which does not want theirs to become
the target of certain NGOs' interests.

In their opinion, the National Commission on Missing Persons
and Victims of Violence (Kontras) is making use of the Talangsari
case as its target to slam the military in the interests of its
antimilitary ideology.

Human rights have now been consigned to the dustbin following
the violation of human rights by the United States itself, which
is labeled as the most serious human rights violator.
