President Prabowo Subianto has vowed to reduce the national poverty rate by 2027. He announced this as he read out the key figures from the Macro Economic Framework and the Main Principles of Fiscal Policy (KEM PPKF) for 2027 during the 19th Plenary Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).

In his briefing, Prabowo projected that by 2027 national economic growth could reach around 5.8-6.5 percent. He stressed that this must be reflected in a tangible improvement in citizens’ welfare.

“Therefore, the poverty rate is targeted to fall to the 6.0-6.5 percent range, from the previous target of 6.5-7.5 percent,” Prabowo said at the DPR RI, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

In addition, Prabowo targeted open unemployment to fall to the 4.30-4.87 percent range, from the previous target of 4.44-4.96 percent.

This aligns with the target for the Gini ratio, or inequality, which is also expected to improve to the 0.362-0.367 range from the previous 0.377-0.380 target.

“The gap between the richest and the poorest must not widen further. In fact, we must strive to continue narrowing it,” he said.

With various priorities in the field of Human Resources (HR), the President also targets the Human Capital Index to improve to 0.575, from the previous 0.570.

He said this will also be aided by various agricultural programs, so the Farmer Welfare Index is targeted to rise to 0.8038 from the previous 0.7731.

“The farmers’ Purchasing Power Index, or NTP, which has now reached an all-time high of 126, must be worked on to rise further,” Prabowo said.

Then, he continued, the government also commits to opening up jobs on a massive scale in 2027. It is targeted that the proportion of formal employment will rise to 40.81 percent in 2027, from 35.00 percent in 2026, an increase of about 5.81 percentage points.

“That is what I have conveyed—the key figures from the Macro Economic Framework and the main Principles of Fiscal Policy (KEM PPKF) for 2027,” he said.
