Crawling out of the house, a one-year-old baby in West Sulawesi dies after falling into a river
A one-year-old baby in West Sulawesi drowned after crawling out of the house and falling into a river near the family home. The incident occurred in Tasokko Village, Karossa District, around 12:00 Central Indonesian Time on Wednesday, 20 May. The infant is believed to have crawled out while the mother was in the bathroom, after which the child is thought to have moved on and fallen into the nearby river. The parents, realising their baby was no longer inside the house, called on local residents to join the search. ‘Perhaps (when the child left the house) the victim fell and was swept away by a fairly strong current,’ said Hamka, Head of Prevention and Preparedness at BPBD Mateng. Residents conducted searches as the river swelled due to heavy rain. The baby was found after about an hour but was already dead.
