Crane Truck That Struck Tendean Footbridge to Be Secured at Police Station
A truck carrying a crane struck a pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, leaving the structure nearly collapsed. The truck will be taken to a police station after the footbridge is dismantled. “We will lift the JPO first, then later, if the vehicle can move, we will escort it, possibly to the police station, to park it in a safe area,” said Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency, Bernad Octavianus Pasaribu, at the scene on Tuesday (14/7/2026). Bernad stated that his team would check whether the truck is still operational. If not, the South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency will tow the vehicle. “We cannot yet confirm whether the vehicle can still run or not. Looking at its condition, it seems it can still run,” he said. “If it is indeed not possible, we will carry out towing using the central tow truck from the Transportation Agency,” he added. The footbridge on Jalan Kapten Tendean was nearly destroyed after being hit by the heavy equipment transporter that failed to pass underneath. The bridge is now unusable. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that the incident occurred early this morning at 00:30 WIB. The accident was caused by the truck driver’s lack of caution. “The driver of the heavy equipment towing vehicle did not account for the maximum load height,” wrote BPBD Jakarta on Tuesday (14/7). Around 07:30 WIB, one support pillar of the footbridge was seen detached from the ground. The bridge stairs on the side of Jalan Tendean heading towards Blok M also appeared separated from the connecting bridge. The truck that struck the bridge remained at the location, still lodged under the structure.
