Crane Truck Stuck Under Tendean Pedestrian Bridge Successfully Evacuated

A crane truck transporting heavy equipment that became stuck under the Kapten Tendean Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) in Mampang, South Jakarta, was finally evacuated on Tuesday (14/7) after a handling process lasting more than 12 hours. The evacuation was carried out in stages using a mobile crane. The sound of heavy machinery engines mixed with the continuous shouts of officers during the process of lifting the bridge frame, which collapsed after being struck by the large-tonnage truck. A number of residents crowded the surrounding area to watch the evacuation. The iron frame and part of the bridge roof were seen to have collapsed after being hit by the vehicle transporting heavy equipment. Officers worked with extreme caution to prevent the structural damage from spreading. A Jakarta Bina Marga Agency officer attached a crane sling to the stuck iron bridge frame before the lifting process began. On the other side, the tilted bridge support pillar was still resting on the crane section of the towing truck. After the bridge frame was successfully lifted, the previously trapped truck was finally able to be removed from under the damaged structure. The successful evacuation was met with relief by officers who had been on site since early morning. Joint personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Bina Marga Agency, and the Transportation Agency were also deployed to secure the area during the process. During the evacuation, two sections of Jalan Kapten Tendean were closed. Traffic flow was diverted until all materials were removed and conditions around the site were declared safe. The Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police had earlier deployed personnel and implemented traffic engineering to ease congestion on Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta. Head of Operations for the Metro Jaya Traffic Police, Kompol Robby Hefados, explained that the measures were taken after the truck carrying a drilling excavator became stuck under the JPO, leaving only one lane passable for vehicles. ‘Our members have been on standby in the field since dawn to manage the flow of vehicles for people starting their morning activities. Indirectly, we are trying to keep traffic flowing through lanes two and three alternately,’ Robby said when confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday. To anticipate vehicle queues stretching to the Kuningan Intersection (HR Rasuna Said) and Warung Buncit, the police prepared several traffic diversions. One of them was temporarily closing access to the Kapten Tendean flyover from the direction of Hotel Mercure. Additionally, motorists from Tendean heading towards Senopati were diverted via Warung Buncit, while vehicles heading to Blok M were directed straight to Jalan Mampang Prapatan Raya to make a U-turn at the nearest turning point before returning towards Tendean. Robby added that comprehensive traffic engineering was scheduled to be implemented at 08:30 WIB after the morning rush hour peak had passed. In addition to managing traffic flow, the police also coordinated with the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency to evacuate the truck using a large-capacity crane. ‘Because this incident involves the JPO structure, we had to bring in a large tow truck (crane). We scheduled the survey and evacuation process to begin around 09:00 WIB for the safety of the bridge construction,’ he explained.
