Crackdown on Illegal Gold Mining in Kuansing Continues, 17 Rafts Destroyed
The Kuantan Singingi Police, through the Kuantan Mudik Sector Police, have demonstrated a strong commitment to eradicating illegal gold mining activities in the region. In a single day, officers destroyed 17 rafts used for mining without permits.
The operation began at 10:30 WIB, led by Kuantan Mudik Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief Ipda Syed Mukhsin Alatas, involving personnel from the sector police, military personnel assigned to secure PT KTBM, and company security. The crackdown followed a report from PT KTBM regarding mining activities within the company’s plantation area.
The joint team swept two locations: the PT KTBM plantation area in Afdeling 14, Lubuk Ramo Village, and Afdeling 4, Pantai Village, both in Kuantan Mudik District. At the first site, officers found seven abandoned rafts. At the second location, another ten rafts were discovered, also left behind by the operators. A total of 17 rafts were seized and destroyed across the two sites. No suspects or other evidence were secured, as all locations had been vacated before the team’s arrival.
Kuantan Singingi Police Chief AKBP Hidayat Perdana stated that the operation is part of the force’s commitment to eradicating illegal mining, which damages the environment and violates the law. ‘We will continue to carry out sustainable enforcement operations with the military and other stakeholders. These activities are not only illegal but also have the potential to destroy the environment and endanger public safety. We urge the entire community not to engage in unlicensed mining and to work together to preserve the environment,’ he said on Wednesday (15/7/2026).
He added that the Kuantan Mudik Police will increase patrols and surveillance in areas prone to illegal mining, while also prioritising preventive measures through community outreach to prevent such activities from re-emerging. The enforcement action was conducted safely and smoothly, with the police reaffirming their consistent commitment to law enforcement for the sake of environmental conservation, security, and public order.
