CPO price hikes boost Jambi`s gross regional domestic product

Jambi (ANTARA News) - Jambi province`s gross regional domestic product in the second quarter of 2008 rose 2.8 percent to Rp9,217 billion, driven by a rise in global crude palm oil (CPO) prices.

The rise in CPO prices caused the local economy particularly the processing industry to grow 5.2 percent, Head of the Jambi Office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Dyan Pramono Efendi said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the agricultural, husbandry, forestry and fishery sectors in the second quarter of 2008 grew 3.8 percent, she said adding the growth was quite significant compared to the previous quarter.

The mining sector in the May-June 2008 period contracted to minus 2.7 percent from 1.4 percent in the previous quarter, she said.

She said the trade, hotel and restaurant sectors in the second quarter of 2008 grew 1.9 percent from the previous quarter due to an increase in occupancy rate and food consumption on the occassion of the national family day celebration in the province.

The construction sector expanded 3.3 percent in the second quarter of 2008 due to the construction of a number of infrastructure facilities including roads, she said.
